Genres: Horror · Magical Realism · Folklore
Year: 2016-2019

Sranan Folktales began as a passion project initiated by Loëlle Monsanto and brothers Mitchell and Michael Lisse, together with a group of young, self-taught creatives.

In Suriname, stories of supernatural encounters and spiritual presences have been passed down through generations. Often told by elders, these stories are deeply embedded in the country’s culture and traditions. They frequently carry warnings about what one should or should not do, with consequences awaiting those who dare to ignore them.

Driven by their shared passion for storytelling and filmmaking, the team set out to bring these traditional tales to life on screen, introducing Surinamese folklore to a new generation.
